Tribal Old Woman

This work was part of my participation on the recent workshop about old people here at CGSociety.
I thought I could make it more believable if I added some old photograph look to the final renders. The intention was to make people wonder who was this person, where was she living and when those pictures were taken. All fantasy, of course because this person does not exist at all. I created this model using different reference pictures. It's an idealization, not a copy of a photograph. It's interesting to notice that these women from Burma all dresses kinda of the same (for what I've seen in these references). So, any image of those women look very similar to each other in terms of clothing.

Modeled in Zbrush. About 20 million polys split in 16 layers.
Base mesh done in Maya. Rendered in Mental Ray using final gather/HDRi.

I hope you like it.

Pan's Labyrinth - CG Baby in the Womb

The original idea was to use an animatronic baby but it didn't turned out very well. Then I was asked to create a CG baby for this shot. I modeled the baby in a few days, painted the texture, did the lighting and shaders and did the animation. So, apart of the rig and final comp, I did pretty much the whole shot. The deadline was very short so I had no time to put any more effort on the model. Anyways, it worked for the movie, I guess. The CG blue rose at the end was created by Akira Orikasa. That's why I've cut the shot, because I don't want to try to pass his work as mine
By the way, Akira KICKED ASS on this movie!

Pan's Labyrinth - Faerie Animation

This is the only shot that I had the chance to animate the Faerie. I spent too much time creating the facial rigging for the faeries on the movie and at the end, because of the nature of the shots, all this work almost can't be seen (not close-ups at the faeries faces at all). I think simple blend shapes would work just fine but hey, I tried my best

This is a 3 year old animation I did just to test the facial rig I created for "The Plumber", one of the characters developed for my WIP short movie "Senzaazione". The story is pretty silly. That's just about the plumber's head interacting with a small ball and making funny faces, just to test the amount of facial expressions I could get using a combination of bones+blend. 1 minute animation done in 1 night and one day. Maya with default render and After Effects for the final comp.
